In short

Vivekananda's quote means one should never condemn others: help them if possible, and if not, offer goodwill and respect their freedom to choose their own path. He founded the Ramakrishna Mission in 1897 on the idea of serving people as God.

Introduction
At Chicago in 1893, Vivekananda condemned sectarianism and fanaticism, not the people trapped in them. The quote sets out a ladder of response to others in which judgment has no rung, and only help or goodwill remain.
What the Quote Asks of Me
•

Condemn none

Condemnation flows from ego and a partial view; Jain Anekantavada teaches that each person sees only part of the truth.

•

Stretch out a hand

Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Mission in 1897 on the idea of serving people as God (Shiva jnane jiva seva).

•

Fold your hands

Where help is beyond my power, goodwill remains; an Empathy Gap, failing to feel another's situation, need not become contempt.

•

Let them go their way

Respecting another's path honours autonomy, Kant's rule of treating people as ends, and Article 25's freedom of conscience.

What It Means in Today's Context
•

Online outrage

Trolling condemns first and understands never; the quote asks for restraint before judging.

•

Pluralist society

Value Pluralism, accepting that good lives take different forms, underpins the Preamble's fraternity.

•

Non-judgmental service

In Budhadev Karmaskar (2022) the Supreme Court told police to treat sex workers with dignity.

•

Not condoning wrong

As Gandhi put it, hate the sin, not the sinner; the state enforces law while treating offenders as human.

Conclusion
To me the quote means I may help or bless, but have no licence to condemn. For a civil servant it is the ethic of impartial, compassionate service: firm on wrongful acts, generous to every person.
